From a small husband and wife team to a family corporation, Horne Realty, Inc. is now more than 55 years old. It all started over the meat counter of a neighborhood grocery store (Horne’s Market.). In the late 40’s when GM moved into Framingham, people came into the store inquiring about housing in the area. Mr. Horne (Charlie, Sr.) would put these people in contact with homeowners who were trying to sell their homes. Aware of the increasing demand for housing, Charlie later sold the market and started building homes. The demand was so great that Charlie decided to try his hand in selling homes as well. So from a small home office in Ashland, Charlie and his wife, Jennie, went into the real estate business. Soon after they expanded to a larger office on Union Avenue in Framingham. For a short time, they relocated on busy Route 9, then called the Golden Mile, while they constructed a three-level office building. So in 1970 they moved back to their Union Ave site where they remained for the next 29 years. Through the years they had a couple of branch offices but always found themselves back in Framingham. Their son, Charles Jr., joined the family firm in 1965. He was later elected president of the firm and in 1972 completely took over the business. Progressive like his father, Charlie, Jr. has been extremely active in the Greater Boston Real Estate Board. Charlie, Jr. held the position of President of Council N for two consecutive years, and was director of that council for three years. He then went on as Director of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, was the Chairman for the “Make America Better” scholarship foundation and served for the Brokers Institute of Council N. Charlie Jr. also carries the designation CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) from the Realtors National Marketing Institute and is a Registered GRI (Graduate of the Realtors Institute). For a long time, Horne Realty, Inc. was unique for having the only separate rental department in the area. Now, they have three departments: Rentals, Residential Sales, and Commercial/Industrial sales and leasing. The Horne’s have been instrumental in bringing into the Framingham area such businesses as the Chateau de Ville, Gino’s, McDonalds, Burger King, the Winery, Ashland Antiques, Empire Gourmet II, Market Basket Plaza and several shopping centers just to name a few and also was the leader in the condo conversion market. Horne Realty, Inc. has now gone back to their roots for the next millennium in opening an office once again on Rt. 126 in Ashland, just a couple of doors down from were it all began. Only now, a third generation has joined the firm, Kevin Horne, Sandra Horne-Parnell and Natalie Horne-Springsteen, Charlie JR’s son and daughters. This new generation is going strong and will keep Horne Realty progressing for another 50 years and with Charlie Sr. and Jennie reaching down to guide them, this team is sure to succeed.
